The History of the Pick of the Week Club
The Pick of the Week Club (POTWC) is more than just a football club; it’s a tradition that has brought friends, family, and football fans together for over three decades. Founded in 1991 by a group of Ball State graduates in Indianapolis, the club has grown from a handful of friends making weekly picks to a vibrant community of over 80 members at its peak.
The Humble Beginnings
In the early days, POTWC members would use printed “playbooks” to make their picks. There was no online platform—just good old-fashioned phone calls to relay choices to fellow members. The picks were scored manually, and every few weeks, members would gather at local spots to tally up the results and enjoy some camaraderie.
Expansion and Digital Transformation
As the club grew, so did the need for a more efficient system. We transitioned from phone chains to voice mail systems and eventually onto the web, where we’ve been able to track picks and standings online. This evolution not only made participating easier but also allowed the club to expand beyond its original circle, welcoming new members from different regions.
Despite the technological advancements, the core of the POTWC has remained unchanged—keeping friends and family connected through the shared excitement of NFL football.
A Legacy of Competition
Over the years, many have claimed the title of POTWC Champion, each adding their name to our rich legacy. These champions represent the competitive spirit and enduring friendships that make our club special.
